Our tour at Thoran was one of the highlights of our trip. My partner is more of a gin person than I am (or so I thought). I was happy to see the distillery and try a couple of sips. We ended up being the only ones there, and were able to talk at length with the owner, Birgir, for ~2 hours, as he explained his production, his product design, and ultimately made us several EXCELLENT cocktails from the gins and other couple of spirits he makes. Again, I have not historically enjoyed gin, but he mixed such good drinks that I had to cut myself off so I could drive home! Undoubtedly, the most valuable part of the experience was just getting to sit and talk with Birgir about anything and everything. We loved the opportunity to compare notes on life in Iceland vs the States, the weather, our families, and whatever other topics we could think of. We took home 2 bottles of gin. If you have any interest in gin or spirit-making in general, and want to enjoy some great drinks, we cannot recommend Thoran enough. Would gladly return in the future.

“Biggie” was a great host and incredibly entertaining and knowledgeable about gin production. He told us about his start up story and how he’s achieved so much to get to where he is today. The gin is possibly some of the best I have ever had, and he is excellent in his presentation of drinks, humor and wit during the personalized tour. I hope that he gains more visitors so he can expand and capitalize on his gem of truly “one-of-a-kind” Icelandic gin

We did a lovely tour of the distillery, very interesting talk on how gin is made and the Gin is one of the best I have tasted!

I have visited this distillery several times. For both group meetings and tasting experience. The visitor center is very nice with interesting and relaxing decorations and furniture that gives the visit a good vibe. The owner knows his business well and is a good storyteller and his presentation is good about both Gin and Whisky, the atmosphere is great, and I highly recommend visit to Thoran distillery.

Thoran Distillery is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning about local Icelandic Gin and Whisky. It might not be located on the salty coast of the Scottish islands but still, the lava fields of the south west peninsula of Iceland is a truly unique frame for enjoying a guided tour at Thoran Distillery. And while you are there, make sure you try their own gin (Marberg) - It is definitely a gin you should always have in the cabinet.

Placed on the edges of the Icelandic capitol area, Thoran Distillery is a wonderful place to visit. Don't let the industrial neighbourhood fool you, inside the warm and welcoming atmosphere is only topped by the very charming owner, Birgir, who will be only too happy to show you around and talk spirits. And speaking of which their Marberg gin is superb!

My new go to GIN!!!!
A visit to Thoran Distillery is must if you are looking for a fun activity. Birgir, the owner/master distiller greets you with a warm and witty welcome. His knowledge of the spirit world is vast and he delivers that knowledge with great passion and humor, and delicious cocktails in between. He will leave you wanting more, so make sure that you grab a bottle or two of Marberg Gin, a typical London Dry with an Icelandic WOW-factor. It pairs perfectly with classic cocktails such as Negroni, Martini (extra dry), and of course a G&T!
