Praktisk informasjon

While there is no on-site café or restaurant, nearby Seltjarnarnes offers several dining options. We recommend visiting the cozy Kaffi Krús or the stylish Sudur-O Sparíð for a pre- or post-viewing meal.

Remember to dress warmly, as Icelandic winter nights can be quite chilly. Wear sturdy shoes, and consider bringing a thermos with a hot drink to help you stay comfortable while waiting for the lights to appear. Patience is key, as the aurora's appearance is unpredictable and dependent on weather conditions.

March 2024 review:

We drove here after all dinners in the capital and luckily were able to see the northern lights twice!! Easy 10-15 minute drive from downtown, crazy how close to the city you can view them!

I will note this place gets CRAZY packed at certain times so try and navigate with caution. If you’re a poor driver, try to take an uber or group transportation.

A nice walk from the city centre obviously prepare for the weather to change every 15 minutes! We had Sunshine, Snow, windy too calm in less than an hour, go at low tide (a notice provides the current months times) to access the lighthouse. Allow a good few hours if walking there and back. Parking is there, the lighthouse is not wheelchair accessible but the rest of the area is flat like the walk from the city centre.

This is one of the places in Reykjavik where you can see the famous northern lights during the season where it appears. I was here in June, so didn’t see northern lights. However, this place can make for breathtaking sunset views and photos, especially in summer where the sun sets very late. Some of these photos were taken between 10:30 and 11pm in June, which makes for quite unique views and photos, videos and panoramas.
However, if you are coming here late in the evening, bring blankets and warm material because it is quite cold in this area, even in the summer season.
If you want to see the northern lights, there is a season where it appears, best to look it up before deciding to see the famous northern lights.

Heel cool!

The location is good to try to see the Aurora lights however I’m due to a lot of parked cars with open lights on. It can be difficult however it is for free and you can just go park and see your lights there. Can only recommend it maybe go a bit late.

Maybe we were very lucky, but throughout all our stay in iceland we did not get to see the northern lights. On our last night, in Reykjavik, we came to this northern lights view point and we were not disappointed, the show was amazing.
It can get really crowded though, some people can’t drive and leave their lights on, however if you get close to the sea and away from the parking lot car and city lights, you should be good.
Free parking, mid march visit.

Mooi punt!

Great spot, never imagined I’d be able to see this kind of beauty 😍😍.
However thanks to some other tourists 🇨🇳 the sky was polluted by drones. So please refrain from using these devices and having your car turned on when spotting aurora.
