Fosshotel Hellnar is a quietly situated property with a grey façade and an aluminium rooftop, spread across several buildings.||The main building houses the reception, restaurant, and two guestroom wings. Additional accommodations are located in separate buildings across the car park. Depending on your room number, views differ—odd-numbered rooms in the main building face the sea, while even-numbered rooms look toward the mountains.||The hotel’s entrance has a countryside charm, with a few light sofas, a large communal table, and a fireplace (albeit virtual, on a screen), all overlooking the sea.||The reception sits to the right, and to by right via a door is the dining area, used for both breakfast and dinner. However, a notable drawback is that guests in rooms beyond the restaurant must walk through the dining space, causing occasional disruption during mealtimes.||Room 30 – Main Building, Car Park View is located at the far end of the main building and faces the car park. The double bed was reasonably comfortable. The room features an open wardrobe with a small fridge (a welcome touch), ample floor space for luggage, a kettle, and coffee-making facilities. However, there was no in-room safe.||The bathroom was spacious, with proper shower doors that effectively kept the water in—a small but appreciated detail. Wooden floors paired with a grey rug added a bit of character. While the view was technically of the car park, looking past that offered a pleasant glimpse of the mountain landscape.||A few downsides: the windows only opened slightly at the top, and the blackout blinds didn’t fully block out light. With the window open at night, noise from the car park (including conversations) could be heard clearly, requiring the window to be closed for peace.||Breakfast was decent overall:|• Coffee: Good quality, made from freshly ground beans via a machine.|• Hot food: Bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, and baked beans – all fine.|• Bread: A modest but acceptable selection.|• Cold cuts & cheese: Basic, nothing special.|• Fruit: Very limited selection.|• Pastries: Two options – cinnamon roll and pain au chocolat, both acceptable.|• Granola: A standout – self-assembled with dried nuts and fruits at the counter.|• Juice: Average, from a carton.||Overall Impression|Fosshotel Hellnar offers a scenic, peaceful location with a cosy, rural feel. While the rooms and amenities are fairly standard, the beautiful natural surroundings—sea on one side, mountains on the other—are the real highlight. A few practical drawbacks, but overall a solid option for a short stay on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

Fosshotel Hellnar is in the perfect location for exploring Snæfellsjökull National Park and other Snæfellsnes Peninsula sites. While the rooms are quite basic, they are clean and comfortable. And you can’t beat the view out of either side of the property, whether mountain or ocean. There’s also a cozy and comfortable common area near the front desk that is a great place to take a break between adventures. The staff is lovely and helpful and the food is great. I would absolutely stay here again.

The food was phenominal! We had the cod and it was perfectly prepared, we had the breakfast buffet and it was great! Friendly environment and excellent location. Great staff. We had the ocean view room. Very cosy. For lunch or dinner the Stapinn restaurant 2 km away has the best burgers and fresh caught fish and chip. The area beaches are incredible so drive the pennisula and it is amazing. Across from the Foss Hotel enjoy Jules Verne Mountain view. Incredicle vacay.

We have been here the first time in 2012, now it belongs to Fosshotel chain, all good. From our first Iceland vacation in 2012 we had this hotel on our bucket list!!! We just wanted to come again here ever since. The view is just amazing, can't beat that one. The rooms are just average, but it's fine. Breakfast was good, but the food for dinner is very expensive.

A great hotel experience. Great views from the ocean side room, and plenty of common space to sit in with a group and soak up the views. The rooms are quite nice. They are small, but you are not in Iceland to stay inside a hotel room. The quality of the room is still quite high.
