신혼여행으로 온 아이슬란드, 6일동안 묵은 숙소중 최고의 숙소. 미바튼 온천과 마트를 차로 10분 이내로 갈 수 있고 너무나 멋진 풍경과 밤에는 오로라도 관측할 수 있고 쏟아질듯한 별도 볼 수 있는 정말 환상적이였던 숙소.

객실은 총4개고 각 방마다 화장실이 있고 공용화장실도 한개 있음. 공용주방+공용거실이 붙어있는데 우리가 묵은날에는 두팀만 묵어서 내 집처럼 자유롭게 공용공간을 활용했음(다만 민폐일까봐 조용히 식사함)

세탁기 오븐 냉장고 커피머신 식기류(냄비 후라이팬 그릇 수저 등등) 거의 다 있음 * 전자레인지는 없으니 햇반 등 물에 끓여서 먹어야함

16시~18시 사이에 체크인을 해야하고 숙소도착해서 출입문 왼쪽상단에 있는 벨을 누르면 주인이 나와 안내해줌
* 굉장히 친절하고 이 숙소에 자부심이 있는거같았음

방은 바닥이 온돌로 되어있어 벽에 붙는 라디에이터보다 따듯하고 온도조절기를 이용해서 조절할수있다. 같이 묵은 다른팀도 조용해서 방음을 확인해 볼 수 없었지만 문이 두꺼워서 방음이 안되는건 아닐거같다.

아이슬란드 여행오기전까진 호텔만 이용했는데 이런 호텔이 아닌숙소에서 묵는것과, 공용공간이 있는 숙소에 대한 부정적이였던 내 마음을 돌린 최고의 숙소. 다시 아이슬란드를 방문한다면 한국 기념품을 사와서 선물하고싶을만큼 이 숙소 선택은 정말 최고였음.

By far the best stay we had on our 3 week trip. There’s a very nice shared living room and kitchen with proper appliances (Siemens, Bosch, Sage espresso machine) and sharp knives to prepare your food. The included washing/drying machine worked perfectly and helped us to some nice clean clothes for the remainder of our trip. There we also drying racks if you don’t want to machine dry your clothes. Birkilauf also offers basic breakfast items and cooking items for you to use, and in the refrigerator you have space for your own items when necessary. Coffee and tea are provided as well.

Joanna was very friendly and helpful when we arrived, walking us through the house promptly and giving us some nice tips for things to do on the area (Myvatn Nature Baths at sunset was a great tip).

We had a double bed room and it was the largest bed we had in Iceland, which is a plus for a tall dutchy. Rooms were more than spacious enough for two people and 4 suitcases.

We drove from Egilsstadir, and I’d recommend doing a few groceries there before driving to Birkilauf, as the store nearby is quite small (but good enough for simple groceries)

We were met upon arrival and we were given a thorough briefing on the property and all its ammenties. It is a spectacular property with a kitchen that has everything you would need, including basic food supplies. The living room and dining space is huge. It even had a huge TV!
Each of the four bedrooms have very comfortably plants, room for luggage and a three-piece bathroom. Everything is impeccably clean.

Die Unterkunft besteht aus 4 Wohneinheiten, welche sich eine Küche und einen Wohnraum teilen. Der Kühlschrank ist sehr gut gefüllt, somit kann man sich sein eigenes Frühstück zubereiten. Tee und Kaffee sind reichlich vorhanden. Mittagessen sowie Abendessen können ebenfalls gekocht werden.
Der Weg zu der Unterkunft ist ein eher unangenehmes Unterfangen (Schotterstraße mit vielen Schlaglöchern).

With a pretty busy itinerary in 12 days on the ring road, 2 days in Birkilauf were like medicine to our tired bodies and a pause to finally prepare a well-deserved cooked meal. We were welcomed with a wide smile from our hostess Dorota (in complete contrast to the weather outside😁) and we felt at home. The rooms and the bathrooms were perfectly clean. In the kitchen, we had everything from the utensils to small snacks, refreshing drinks, and fruit. We prepared breakfast on our own with the groceries Dorota provided and a dinner after a long day of hiking. I found it added a lot to this "home" feeling after buffets in different hotels the days before. Logistically, the lodge lies near all the sightseeing highlights in the area, which is really practical. We will surely come back!

Nous avons reçu un accueil sympathique. L’environnement de la guesthouse est magnifique. La chambre est simple, confortable, avec du rangement. Le gros plus, c’est l’immense espace salon, salle à manger, cuisine, à disposition des hôtes. Avec un lave-linge. Terrasse pour les beaux jours.|Petits détails négatifs: dans la salle de bain, il manquait un dérouleur pour le papier wc et une barre pour les serviettes.

We enjoyed our stay at Birkilauf. It is conveniently located with parking. The room was a nice size with a great bed. The place had a washer but was not able to use because other guests here were doing their laundry. The owner mentioned he would have out cake and bread for the guests but always seemed to be gone when we were there. Stayed 3 nights.

Great property - guests have access to a very large and comfortable living room and the best kitchen, with a fridge containing essential items to prepare breakfast, a great coffee machine, and homemade bread and lemon cake. Comfortable room, with access to a terrace.
Host was friendly and helpful.
Would love to stay again!

One minor suggestion to make the experience even better: add a bit of signage on the way to the property - the last turn says “private property” so it’s not obvious there’s a guesthouse a few hundred meters away…
