The food was extremely disappointing, with every dish overwhelmingly salty—even for those who enjoy bold seasoning. The most frustrating part was the meat dish, which was so tough and poorly cooked that no one at our table could eat it. When we politely shared this with the staff, the chef arrogantly dismissed our feedback, insisting he disagreed rather than addressing the issue. His attitude was unprofessional and condescending, making the experience even worse. A restaurant of this caliber should prioritize quality and customer satisfaction, but this one failed on both counts.

We had high hopes for this restaurant, and while the service from Niko and Alexandra was truly outstanding—attentive, kind, and professional—the rest of the experience was deeply disappointing.

The food was overwhelmingly salty, even for someone who enjoys well-seasoned dishes. The meat dish, in particular, was incredibly tough and poorly cooked, making it nearly impossible to eat. When we politely shared this feedback with the chef, instead of addressing the issue, he dismissively insisted he disagreed, showing a level of arrogance that was both surprising and unacceptable. Given that no one at our table could eat the dish, this response was not only unhelpful but also disrespectful.

Adding to the disappointment, despite mentioning a birthday celebration in advance, there was no acknowledgment or special gesture from the restaurant. For the price we paid, we expected far better food quality and a more professional attitude from the kitchen. Unfortunately, this was a bad experience from start to finish, and we absolutely do not recommend this restaurant.

Amazing experience! We sat at the chefs table and it was a great experience overall. The food was delicious and we enjoyed the tasting menu (that’s the only menu). You can ask get a wine pairing, which we chose to skip. We loved watching the team make the food and fully enjoyed the experience.

Well curated and prepared, and definitely well worth the price (I honestly think it’s undervalued).

My partner and I agreed that North restaurant could even do well in NYC where we are from and the competition is high — and we’re foodies!

Recommend sitting at the chefs counter so you can watch them prepare and plate the dishes. The staff are nice and outgoing too!

Highlights from our seasonal menu were the tomato + ricotta dish, the beet root, and the slow cooked lamb

Definitely the best meal we had on our 8 day trip in Iceland.

I had the pleasure of experiencing the tasting menu at this hidden gem in Akureyri, and it was nothing short of spectacular.

The intimate setting made the dining experience feel both exclusive and cozy, perfect for a romantic evening or a special occasion.

Every dish was a true celebration of Icelandic flavors, with fresh, high-quality ingredients and beautifully presented plates.

The convenience of having the restaurant attached to the hotel was an added bonus, allowing us to enjoy a leisurely meal without worrying about transportation. Highly recommend this for anyone visiting Akureyri and looking for an exceptional culinary experience!

Truly outstanding experience! The tasting menu offers a great journey through Icelandic cuisine and approaches Michelin star quality, especially in its beautiful presentation. While on an absolute level the menu is, of course, expensive, I found it actually incredible value for money given what you spend on a nomal dinner or even just breakfast in Akureyri! The wine pairing also was very well chosen. Don't miss North Restaurant when visiting Akureyri!
