We needed to get a prescription for antibiotics. We stopped by to see if they would take walk-ins. Even though it was not standard for them to do so, the doctor quickly took us in and saw us. The doctor was extremely nice, friendly and helpful. He agreed we needed antibiotics and prescribed us some. They went above and beyond on a last min emergency.

Note: you need to remove your shoes before you enter the lobby. 🙂

We were visiting from the States in December. I drove off-road about 120 km away from this hospital and one of the passengers (my cousin) in the car was injured. We came into the hospital at about 8 pm at night and the staff (nurses and doctor) were very kind and compassionate. The staff pretty quickly did a CT scan and though at first they said that it was clear, another doctor later reviewed the scans to see that my cousin had a fracture. The doctor(s) here contacted doctors at the Reyjavik hospital to arrange transport, as my cousin needed surgery and that was beyond the scope of this small, rural hospital. We ended up getting airlifted to Akureyri, which was arranged by the hospital and they were very kind to arrange the ambulance to the airlift location and to communicate with the other parties that we were a party of 3 and that it would be ideal if we and our luggage could all stay together. While all this was being arranged and things were up in the air, nurses looked up bus schedules for us in case we couldn't travel directly with our cousin. They did not have to do that, but they went beyond the call of their job to help out three scared travelers and we are very grateful.
